10 Tips to Burn Fat
One common reason I hear for going vegan or raw is for weight loss, so I thought I’d take some time to give some advice! These ten tips to burn fat will help you lose weight, commit to yourself, get in shape, and feel even better about yourself!
1. Set your goals. Look at your life and ask yourself: “What do I want to change? How do I envision myself in the future? What is my goal? Why do I want to lose weight?” Grab a pen and a piece of paper, and write down your answers to these questions. This will help keep your goal and motivations fresh and present in your mind.
2. Look at what you’re eating. For three days, write down every single thing that you eat to get a realistic and complete picture of your current food habits. For optimum weight loss, we need to eat clean, unprocessed, whole plant foods. A diet high in raw foods offers tons of fiber, water, vitamins, and minerals, while legumes help you feel satiated with way less calories and fat than you would get from animal products. Check out my tips on meal prep to lose weight for ideas on what to eat. Meal Prep is LIFE!!
3. Get cardiovascular exercise. Cardio helps burn more calories, so make a plan! How many days a week will you work out, and exactly what exercises will you do?
4. Strength training. This is important for weight loss, because muscle burns fat! My friend Torre Washington has an amazing, easy-to-follow guide that I use myself and highly recommend!
5. Hydrate. WATER WATER WATER!!
6. Eat potassium-rich foods to keep water in the muscles. Bananas, coconut water, and avocados are great!
7. Keep stress levels low, because stress causes physical tension and affects our whole system. Work on slowing down and learning to appreciate life. Take a walk, breathe, use the Headspace app, and know that everything is going to be OK!
8. Make a plan! Physically write it out so you can visualize it and easily follow it. Write out what you’ll eat and what exercises you’ll do every day to help you achieve your goals!
9. Track your progress. Use pictures or measure your dimensions, body fat, or weight. But don’t judge yourself for where you are in the process! Love yourself as you are in this moment.
10. Make a commitment to yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and say “I’m going to do this because I love myself enough to follow through.” Even if you get off-track, commit to getting right back into it!
